NEW SUBURBAN THEATRE.

BUILDING AT PAPATOETOE.

SEATING FOR 600 PERSONS.

Plans have just been completed for a new theatre in Station Road, Papatoetoe, in the centre of the shopping area of the township. The new building, which is to be of brick and concrete in the Spanish mission style, will be named the Central. The. fcontage to Station Eoad is 60ft., the depth being 100 ft. Incorporated in the building will be shops on each side of the entrance, with display windows facing the lobby. The exterior of the building will be finished in white plaster adorned with ornamental work, the roofing being of red tiles: Over the wide entrance a balcony will be suspended.

The interior finish will be of white plaster, relieved by ornamental cornices and proscenium. Seating accommodation for 600 people will be provided, the seats being stepped back in tiers, giving an equal view in all parts of the house. There will be no dress circle. The stage will be sufficiently largo to permit the presentation of vaudeville items, while the latest system of flood-lighting, using special dimmers and colour combinations, will be incorporated. Special attention has been paid to ventilation, the provision of all seating on the one floor level greatly facilitating this. The owner is Mr. Ronald Corbett, of Papatoetoe, the architect being Mr. J. W. Rough. Ihe theatre will be under the direction of Mr, J. S. Gibbons, of Onehunga.
