FERNS IN A WELL.
r A lady resident of Hawera has written a Jetter to "Boys and Girls" telling us how, on opening an old well, which had been closed for years, she found its Bide a mass of ferns. She saw that those conditions suited them, so she had a hole dug in tho bank in her garden and planted a few maidenhair and other ferns in it, Theso seeded and in no time tho tanks were a mass of green. Her " dug-out " grew in size and plan, and keen gardeners from far and near visited it, with the result that " dugouts," as she named them, are becoming yery popular down Hawera way.
