PATHOLOGISTS' FEES.
POST-MORTEM EXAMINATIONS
NO AUCKLAND COMPLAINTS.
Fees paid to pathologists who conduct post-mortem examinations at the request of coroners were described by Mr. E. D. Mosley, S.M., coroner, at an inquest in Christchurch as being inadequate. Mr. Mosley said there was a danger of not having the services of an expert pathologist at post-mortem examinations now, owing to the reduced fees for such work. Dr. A. B. Pearson, pathologist at the Christchurch Hospital, thie coroner said, could be induced to give his services at post-mortem examinations only at,bis personal and earnest solicitations. No such difficulty, however, is being experienced in Auckland. The position regarding doctors' fees is that in 1920 the fee was increased from £3 3s to £5 ss. This fee continued until about a year ago, when thie Justice Department reduced it again to £3 3s. Coroners in the city have received no complaints, and -it is believed the first time the question was raised was by Mr. Mosley.
