MAINTENANCE OF WIFE.
NAME MENTIONED IN ERROR. In error, the name of William Heniy Ashmore was mentioned in a report of a Police Court case yesterday, in which a man who had been obstinate concerning a maintenance order intimated that he realised the folly of resistance, and stated, "I now realise that my life will be a series of short sentences if I do not pay up." When defendant's defaults and convictions were criticised by the magistrate his retort was, "Still, it is never too late to mend or reform." The result was that the man was warned that a sentence of six months' imprisonment would be incurred by further default. This case had no connection with Mr. Ashmore, who was present in Court in connection with a case, which was adjourned at the request of his counsel.
