OBITUARY.
MRS. M. J. GIVEN. An did resident of Pollok, Mrs. Matilda Jane Given, recently passed away «t her home after a long illness. The only daughter of the lata Mr. and Mrs. Duncan McLaren, of Waikato, she was born in Auckland £8 years ago and after her marriage to Mr. Jamas Given resided at Pollok continuously for the last 34 years. Up to the time of her illness Mrs. Given took the keenest interest in matters pertaining to the welfare of the district, especially in relation to the Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her husband, two sons and two daughters, one daughter "having predeceased her. MR. JOHN ROBERTSON. The death has occurred of Mr. John Robertson, aged 81, for many years an employee of the Auckland City Council. Mr. Robertson was appointed Abattoirs inspector to the council in 3887, and held the position for many years. While he wits in office the city abattoirs were situated at Western Springs. He has since lived in retirement. MR. OLIVER MEWHINNEY. ' [BY TELEGRAPH.—PREBS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, Friday. The dearth occured this morning of Mr. Oliver MeWhinney, who was private secretary to the late Mr. R. J. Seddon, the Hon. T. Y. Duncan and the Hon. R. McNab. Later he was secretary of the Land Purchase Board. Before joining the public service he was a journalist in Dunedin.
