REPORTS TO THE ASSEMBLY.

- At, the Congregational Union Assembly to-day the-moderator, Rev. Harry Johnson, reported that the activities in the North Island indicated a very real improvement, but that in the South Island affairs were inclined to be dull. He suggested that a commission bo appointed to consider the position in the South Island. The Rev. W. Saunders said the source of much inefficiency was the lack of a :definite period of tenure : in ministerial settlement. Churches should he assured that a minister would be prepared to give a fair term of service. At the afternoon session reports were received from the Auckland, Wellington, Canterbury and Otago districts. Otago alone failed, to strike an optimistic note.
