MORE LAND FOR QUARRY.
WIDENING TAMAKI BRIDGE.
The Otaliuhu Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. R.> B. Todd, presiding.
The borough engineer was instructed to proceed with preparation of the'towri planning scheme. ' It was-.decided to purchase from the Auckland Harbour Board a further 14i acres of land near Amies Bridge, for aq extension of quarrying operations. The purchuse price was "an acre. The Mayor said the laud would, not be a charge upon the rates, and it would prove a good investment. Mr. Clements said the quarry was kept going at high pressure, and the present site would soon be worked out. The present, quarry plant was showing a good return, and orders for 3000 yds. of crushed metal were in hand at the present time. In connection with the widening and repairing of the Tamaki Bridge, on the main highway, it was decided to effect temporary repairs, tire Works Committee to go into the question of widening and report to the council at next meeting. Regarding the widening of the High Street, Panmure Road, and Great South Road intersection, the sub divisional plan was approved, a triangular piece' of land being taken from the Watson Murray trust estate.
The pumping engineer reported the depth of water in the well had docreased s£in. during the past fortnight. The questions of reducing the charge for water to consumers within the borough, and whether the borough, should dispense with water meters and charge all ordinary dwellings on a flat rate, were referred to the Water, and Drainage Committee for a report. . , .
The building inspector reported that buildiug permits to-'the value of £2004 had been granted during the fortnight.
