ANNEXATION TO CANADA.
DISCUSSION OF SUGGESTION.
A. and N.Z, OTTAWA, March 7. The Canadian Government is not aware of any discussions about the annexation of British Guiana. If such discussions are taking place they are confined to Guiana. A London cablegram stated that Mr. J. A, Tinne, Conservative member for Wavertrec, Liverpool, told the House of Commons that the possibility of the annexation of Guiana to Canada was being discussed.
British Gniana includes Demeraro, Essequibo and Berbrie. It is situated on the uorth-east coast of South America, and has an area of 89,480 square miles, and a population of 306,000. The chief exports are sugar, rum, diamonds, and rice. There is a Governor, Sir Cecil Rodwell, and a Court of Policy of 15 memand an Executive Council of nine members. Canada has a large trade with the West Indies, and last year the Government arranged by legislation for_ the formation of the * Canadian National (West Indies) Steamships, Limited, to trade under the Canadian National Railways. Two freight boats were put on the run, and new steamers are to be built.
