BAND OF HOPE UNION.
OPENING OF NEW SESSION. The year's activities of the Auckland Band of Hope Union were inaugurated ** last evening -with a temperance "banquet and conference in Unity Hall. There was a large attendance of children and young people. ... _ The banquet commenced at six o'clock and was followed by an interesting programme. Recitations alluding to certain aspects of the movement were given by Misses Ruth Gourdio and Marjorie Emerys, and uongs were rendered by Miss Evans. At the conclusion of the banquet a model programme, organised by Mrs. Kasper, was commenced. Clever costume impersonations of leading prohibition advocates were given by several children.
An address on the Band of Hope movement was given by the Rev. Charles Wickham, of London. Later in the evening a conference of workers and organisers was held under the direction of Mrs. Lee Cowie, and a programme of work for the year was prepared.
