DAIRYING OUTPUT.

FORTNIGHT'S YIELD LOWER.

INCREASE FOR THE SEASON.

Even though the latest statistics show the production of butter-fat in Auckland Province is being affected by the prolonged dry spell, and is less now than it was at the corresponding period of last year, the farmers still have the substantial total of close on 3,000,0001b. of butter-fat in hand and to the good over the seasonal production to a similar date in the 1926-27 season.

The fortnightly returns prepared by the . Auckland Farmers' Freezing Company show that for the two weeks ended on Wednesday the receipts into store were 65.842 boxes butter and 6924 crates of cheese, against 95,892 boxes and 9733 crates in the corresponding fortnight of last year. Reduced to the common basis of butter-fat, the last fortnight yielded 3,510,014ib., a decrease of 1,580,8901b. The declino in productipn is directly attributable to the prolonged spell of dry weather, which burnt the pastures.. Although refreshing rain fell' over the province at the end of last month and again at the beginning of this week, it was not to be expected that the cows would come on again so rapidly as to influence mater' ially last fortnight's output. During the coming period it should be found that the retrograde movement lias been largely stayed. For' the season from July 1 until Wednesday the butter-fat yield has been 79.791,7521b., compared with 77.065,8951b. for the corresponding period of last season, an increase of 2,725,8571b.
