\t. and N.Z. MELBOURNE. March 8. The weather was fine and cool to-day for the Flemington rates. The attendance was satisfactory and the going was excellent.

Johnny Cake was always' in front, in Ihe Autumn Hurdles and won comfortably. The rider (Butler) had won the race in previous seasons on Glugo and Dalcross.

In the C. M. Lloyd Stakes, Gothic was second early in the race, but took charge at the two furlongs post and won brilliantly. This is Pike's third success in the race. Gothic's owner, Mr. Sol Green, had scored previously with Comedy King and Gladsome. Mcllison was prominent throughout and won tho Ascot Vale Stakes nicely. This is his fifth successive win. He cost 600 guineas aud has won about £6700 in stakes. , . Mawallah was second to last cariy in the Autumn Handicap, but finishing fast, won narrowly. He was ridden by J. Daniels and trained by Mr. Fred Fourshams, who thus scored his second win of the afternoon. Trivalve was not extended to win the Governor's Plate, in which Pilliewinkie gave an improving display, Trivalve has now recorded seven wins, two seconds and three thirds, and has won £26,579 in stakes. The imported mare Gallantry was second at the last half mile of the River Handicap, but finished fast and won comfortably. She is owned by Mr. Sol Green, and was trained by the former New Zealander, Mr. Lou Robertson. Following are the results of the races;— AUTUMN HURDLE RAt'E, S. A soft track will suit Bonhomme in the Autumn Handicap, but if it is firm he •hould run well. Tintoretto may be prominent. From what has been seen of the Maiden Plate candidates, High Heather and Abisogne have the best form. Star God taay show up ill the Redcliffe Handicap. Braemar and Sandburr have winning form.
