COUNCIL DISCUSSES METHODS. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] KG ATE A. Thursday. The Hauraki Plains County Council, at its meeting to-day, debated its reading policy for over an hour. The matter was introduced by the engineer, Mr. F. Basham, who said in his opipion, if the issue simply rested between the merits of surface sealing and loose surface methods of maintenance, it would be easy to decide the most economical method.

The engineer quoted figures which, he said, would show that there was very little apparent difference in the cost of the present loose coat methods and surface sealing, but the latter method would have the advantage of providing for a 200 per cent, increase in motor traffic and a very considerable saving in the running expenses of motor vehicles.
