PREVALENCE OF THEFT.
LENIENCY IMPOSSIBLE.
MARRIED MAN'S OFFENCES. Having pleaded guilty to six charges of theft from business places in Dargaville, Joseph Letica was sentenced in the Supremo Court yesterday to one year's reformative detention. Prisoner pleaded that shortage of work had led him to commit the offences. He had a sick wife and a number of young children. Mr. Justice Reed said unfortunately for the prisoner this offence of entering premises was becoming so prevalent that it was impossible to treat cases with leniency. He would have to undergo detention.
