FLOOD DANGER RECURS.

AUSTRALIAN EXPERIENCE.

DRIFT FROM UPPER REACHES.

MANY SETTLERS MAROONED. WIDE AREAS INUNDATED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. A. and N.Z. . - SYDNEY, Feb. 23. Floods in the Bogan Biver district are causing great anxiety at Nyngan, 377 miles north-west of Sydney. News has been received that a great flopd in the upper reaches of the river is travelling at a rate of eight miles an hour and unless the waters near Nyngan fall considerably this drift, it is feared, will overwhelm the town. The weather there is very muggy and further rain is expected. Station owners and small settlers on the banks of the Bogan Biver have fared badly. In many cases settlers are imprisoned in their homes, and the land for miles around is covered with muddy water. The police are endeavouring to carry supplies of food to the marooned settlers, but owing to the strong current their progress is very slow. The river is usually 90ft. wide, but it now ranges in width from two to 10 miles. Further heavy rains have occurred in f the Riverina .district, causing several washaways. Part of Junee, 287 miles south of Sydney, is again under water, and some of the surrounding coantry is inundated to a depth of 2ft. Ganmain, also, is experiencing a recurrence of the floods which last week caused damage there amounting to many thousands of pounds. A number of business places and residences are flooded. Coolamon and Wagga are also affected.
