The Government's new Companies Bill, which was read a second time in the House of Commons yesterday, seeks to give protection to investors against people who peddle doubtful shares from house to house. Hawking will bo prohibited if the bill is passed, and written offers to the public will have to be accompanied by- detailed particulars. Although the provisions of the bill are to be suspended until a further measure, which will incorporate all legislation affecting companies, has been passed the share-peddling clause is intended to come into operation - immediately after the passage of the bill. "Comparatively few of the 'sharks' will get through the network which will be closely drawn around them," said the president of the Board of Trade, Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister, in sponsoring the measure^
