VESSEL DELAYED.
OFFICER'S SLIGHT INJURY.
A slight injury sustained by the second mate of the steamer Kairanga delayed the departure of the vessel for Newcastle until early this morning. The steamer left the wharf at about 11.15 p.m. and was manoeuvring in the stream when the second mate jammed his thumb while steering. The anchor was dropped and a signal for a launch was sent. The injury was treated in the casualty, ward of the Public Hospital and the officer returned to the ship. : •'
