FRAUD ON BOOKMAKERS.
USE OF WIRELESS SET.
CONSPIRACY IN GERMANY
(Received February 8, 7.5 p.m.) A. and N.Z. ' BERLIN, Feb. 8. A widespread conspiracy to Sefraud bookmakers by the use of wireless was revealed through the arrest of three ringleaders at Hamburg. The method adopted by the men was to rent a room in a district frequented by bookmakers, and to instal a three-valve receiving set. They intercepted and decoded the Morse messages giving results of races from Paris.
These were signalled to their accomplices in the street, who laid bets accordingly. Sometimes the results of races were obtained 10 minutes before they wore received by the bookmakers. It is believed the ruse was practised in many towns in Germany. Suspicions were aroused by the heavy losses of bookmakers.
