RELEASE OF LEE BEVAN.
CITY EQUITABLE CASE.

A. and N.Z. LONDON. Feb. 7. The former chairman of the City Equitable Insurance Company, Gerard Lee Bevan, was released to-day from Maidstone prison Twenty-one months of his sentence of seven years' imprisonment were remitted for good conduct.
Gerard Lee Bevan, formerly chairman of the City Equitable Fire Insurance Company and" senior partner in the firm of Ellis and Co., stockbrokers, London, was sentenced on December 5, 1922, in the Central Criminal Court, London, to seven years' penal servitude. He had been found guilty on an indictment charging him w:ith issuing false balance-sheets, publishing a false prospectus, fraudulent conversion and obtaining money by false pretences.
