CONDITIONS IN SAMOA.

Sir, —The Government was wrong in the first place in trying to hide every side of the question bpt its own. That wrong it is still perpetrating, and the public of New Zealand hesitates to believe in it or its inquiries on that account. No amount of ridicule or championing of authority can make a false statement true, whether issued by our Prime Minister or any one else. The people of New Zealand, as well as those in Samoa, want justice by open inquiry or trial—not by the spurious type of secret diplomacy practiced by pur misstyled "Reformers" —and until they get this by virtue of their rights as British subjects, they will prefer to believe the statements of such reputable men as Mr. Nelson rather than those of his present persecutors. J. Knight. Henderson.
