VETERAN'S BIRTHDAY.
THE REV. GEORGE BOND. The Rev. George Bond, of ' Auckland, will celebrate his 80th birthday tomorrow. Mr. Bond was born in the county of Durham, England. After three years training for the Methodist ministry lie came to New Zealand, arriving at Auckland in the ship Warwick with the llov. T. G. Carr on February 9, 1873. < ■ '-; , Mr. Bond has filled many high positions, being elected president of the conference in 1892. After serving his church in many leading circuits he retired from the pastoral »work in 1915, when he wa.-i appointed general treasurer of the home mission and Church extension department, a position which lie still retains, lie has also held the position of secretary and trcasuror of the liJvssion > Property Trust. Mr. Bond's interests have always been wider than those of his own domination and for more than half .a century he has taken an active part in social, educational, and philanthropic movements. He is at present Vice-president of the British and For ign Bible Society, a post he has held for a number of years. Ho is also a vice-president of the Society for the. Protection of Women and Children. Mr. Bond is enjoying the best of health.
