CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, (B7 TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] RAETIHI, Wednesday. The Raetihi Chamber of Commerce met ■this week, Mr. C. E. Whifctington presid ing. The meeting was well-attended and several matters of great local interest came before the meeting. During the evening Mr. J. H. Lucas read an interesting paper on "Rating." Messrs, A. E. Willoughby, L. F. Bair<J, F. Thomson, iW. E. Thomson, J. Coker, L. Fisher, H. Newall, H. Dauphin, W. H. Sandtoid, N. Brown were elected members of the chamber. The question ot the revaluation of the borough was before the meeting and Mr Urwin said that he thought the Valuation Land Act contained anomalies and was most unfair in its present form, lie proposed that they refer the matter to the Associated Chambers of Commerce, so that, representations bo made to the Government to make the Act more equitable. The meeting agreed to act on Mr. Urwin's suggestion. The chairman reported in connec •tion with the swimming baths scheme that work had commenced in the forma tion of public baths. It was agreed tr. approach the Borough Council with a view to obtaining permis sion to have the streets lighted all through Sunday nights to protect the tradesmen's premises from burglars.
