DAIRY PRODUCE RATES.
QUOTATIONS IN LONDON. BUTTER MARKET BETTER. A rise of 2s per cwt. in the price of butter on the London market is recorded in advice received by local firms yesterday. Such a movement was forecasted by Amalgamated Dairies in their report last week which stated they anticipated a firm market this week, but thereafter a downward movement owing to heavy arrivals. Their report, dated in London, January 28. states: "The price of finest grade was advanced on Friday evening to 158s per cwt., and first, grade to 156s (156s to 154s last week). Unsalted butter, 1625. Danish, 170s to 172s spot; 1665, f.o.b. The market is very bare. Retail prices arc unchanged. Cheese.—White and coloured, 91s; finest, 90s; first grade Canadian, 98s to 104s. The market is firmer. Retail prices are unchanged. A. S. Paterson and Company, Limited, received the following cablegram from its London principals, J. and J. Lonsdale and Company, Limited :--Buttcr: Firm. 158s. Cheese: Steady, 91s. Commenting on this advice A. S. Paterson aud Company,, Limited, state the butter market is" evidently in a better state, with an appreciation in values, and we hope that better prices can be looked for in the near future. In cheese no material alteration has taken place, and the market is described as steady. Prices, arc, of course, on a satisfactory level.
