PAYMENT FOR CRICKET.
SHEFFIELD SHIELD MATCHES J Now that Queensland has joined the | Sheffield Shield States in competition for I the premiership of the Commonwealth, the call on the time of leading players in each State is so severe that the controlling bodies must either determine to make a fitting allowance as compensation for loss of salary to players who feel the pinch, or be prepared to see teams enter the lists unrepresentative of the current strength of the States, says a Sydney ciitic. The associations have ample income from first-class cricket to warrant the allotment of a specific sum to each player needing it for each match over ana above customary personal expenses. Players who give so much time to representative cricket should not be expected to suffer loss through loyalty to the game and th,a State.
