MOUNT ROSKILL AFFAIRS.
WATER AND DRAINAGE. The Mount Roskill Road Board met i'last evening, the chairman, Mr. E. F. Jones, presiding. A resident of Belfast Street asked the board to lay a £in. water pipe a distance of 150 yds. from the Hillsborough Road main to his residence. A discussion followed on the policy to be carried • out in the distant areas of the district. Mr. Tozer pointed out that a 4in. main would have to he laid in time for firefighting purposes, but a loan for the required amount would hardly be justified at present. Mr. Robertson thought a .smaller pipe would suffice for the presi cnt. The matter wi.s deferred, and in ithe meantime the board will fill the ratepayer's tank. The same temporary expedient will be adopted to meet the requirements of 3 residents in Frederick Street and Hill t Street, who are without water. The engineer reported that repairs had i been effected to Mount Albert Road. ! Satisfactory progress was heing made with the contract for the water main extension in Hillsborough Road, and the new main had been tested at a pressure of ' 2001b. as far as Aldersgate Road. Mr. L. A. Tor.er again drew attention 'to the serious danger in Roskill West, • owing to the absence of drainage, and he moved that the Health Department be rei quested to urge the Drainage Board to ) reticulate this area. He said the project ]had been delayed for four years. The j matter was deferred until the next meeting. The board confirmed the resolution to (declare Saturday the statutory day of ithe half-holiday for shops in the district. During the past fortnight eicht buiid- } ing permits have been issued. The bmld'j ing inspector reported there were now 15 'buildings being erectad in the district.
