HARBOUR MATTERS.
RAILWAY FACILITIES. COLLIERS AT PRINCE'S WHARF. The Auckland Harbour Board met yesterday, the chairman, Mr. H. K. Mackenzie, presiding. The liailvvay Department advised that in connection with the lay-out of the new station yards it would be necessary to find another site for the inwards goods shed. The department intimated its desire to lease for 18 months a site on the reclamation east of the power station. An indication of the board's intentions concerning the formation of a roadway adjacent to the block was also sought. A report recommending a resurvey of the area and the construction of the roadway to 'ho point proposed for the new vehicular ferry landing was received from the hoard's engineer. The matters were referred to the board in committee. The Shipping and Stevedores' Association forwarded a request that the board should reconsider its decision to prohibit colliers and other vessels handling bulk cargoes from discharging at f*rince'a Wharf. It was stated that the shipping companies had found the powerful crane equipment very expeditious. The board derided to adhere to its decision. The Stevedores' Association also re quested that the construction of the western viaduct near Freeman's Bay should be treated as an urgent work, in order to link up with the waterfront railway system. The suggestion was deferred for consideration in commit'tee. A similar decision was made regarding an application from the Auckland Metropolitan Agricultural and Pastoral Assseciation for the use of wharl: sheds for tbi? winter show in July. A licence to instal a pipeline on Westerr. Wharf was granted to an oil company which has commenced the erection of bull, petrol tanks on the former site of the launch and yach* slipways in Beaumoni; Street. Sixteen tenders were received for additions to the board's offices in Quay Street The lowest, that of Messrs. Adams and Hine, at £7400, was accepted.
