SHOULD TEACHERS SMOKE?
Sir,—l fail to see where your correspondent, "Common Sense," proves any argument in favour of teachers smoking in the presence of pupils. I might say 1 did not allude to male teachers in my letter. They are the privileged' sex and their right to smoke has not been questioned, except "during school hours, though I do think that what applies to women teachers applies to men also, as no doubt the smoking habit iii as injurious to boys as it is to girlsi. ''Common Sense" is quite welcome to his pipe, or any other adult, male or female, who has contracted the habili; but what I object to is children, boys and gii'ls, the prospective mothers and fathers of future generations, being encouraged by example of either teachers or parents to contract habits that injure the body, muddle the brain, sap the will power, and are entirely unnecessary and expensive. What sane person could advocaite anything so detrimental to youth ? Rather ishould we start, as they are in America, a campaign against it. Grandmother.
