CONTESTS AT WHANGAREI.

WHANGAREI, Mandny, A large number of launches and yachts, with the two excursion boats, Eva arid Rakanui, made Manganese Point their headquarters to-day on the occasion of the annual regatta of the Whangarei Cruising Club. Early in the day there was very little sailing wind, but in the afternoon a fresh breeze sprang up, and the 14-footer championships were sailed in good time. In the event for the Ailsa Craig Cup the places wero filled by members of the Reynolds family. The second race of tho season, for the Palmer Cup, was won by Ranger, manned bv the crew «vhich put up such a good fight for the Cornwell Clip. This win gives Rariger seven points, one point, behind Scout. Snipe is third, with two points. The mullet boat race was won by Sadie, from scratch. This boat was very well handled by Mr. Pickmere. junr. The 14-footer championships provided a fine finish. Snipe winning by two seconds from Ranger, with Scout only the length of a bowsprit hehind. In the race for the Big Tree Cup for launches Loloma won, with Dawn 11. 18 seconds away, Whati 45 seconds further hack in third position. The results were as follows: — Ailsa Craig Cup, 4 miles.—Florence (J. Rovnolds), 1; Kopuru (F. Reynolds), 2. Also started: Loloma (R. Laurie) and Dawn 11. (E Parker). Palmer Cup, 4 miles.—Ranger (N. Hollows!, 1; Scout (W. Pullman), 2: Snipe (C Lacey). 3. Also started: All Black and Whizz Bang. Won easily. Mullet Boats, 4 miles.—Sadie (11. Pkkmere). 1: Rona (R. Baker), 2: Royal Saxon (S. Charlesworth), 3. A very close finish. Fourteen-footer Championship, 4 miles. —Snipe, 1; Ranger, 2; Scout, 3. The onlv starters. Big Tree Cup, 4 . miles.--Loloma, 1; Dawn, ; Whati, 3.
