ALLEGATION OF THEFT.
TWO YOUNG MEN CHARGED. PROCEEDINGS AT HAMILTON. « [BX TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT, J HAMILTON, Monday. Two young Hamilton residents, Ira George Land and Bernard Francis Murray, were arrested by Detective Culloty and Constable Sutton 011 Saturday and charged with breaking and entering the garage of C. S. Washer, at Tauranga, on January 27, and stealing travellers' samples, including clothing, valued at £95 13s 9d, t/ie property of Jackson, Ltd., warehousemen. Auckland. The accused appeared before Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., in the Hamilton Magistrate's Court, and were charged with the offence. Detective Culloty, in asking for a remand until February 7, said some of the stolen property had been discovered in possession of the accused, but the bulk of it had not been recovered. The accused asked " for bail. Detective Culloty opposed the application, on the ground that the accused had not assisted the police in their inquiries. The Magistrate: How coild they giva you assistance unless they were guilty ? Bail was allowed in £SOO and two sureties of £250 each.
