GOOD SUPPLIES OF FISH.
PRICES SHOW A DECREASE. Tho spell of fine weather which Auckland has enjoyed has proved exceptionally favourable for fishing operations in the liauraki Gulf. The fishing industry depends a great doal on weather conditions, which greatly influence the supplies obtainable, more particularly in the Gulf. Fish of all Varieties have been very plentiful lately and good catches have been consistenty obtained. Flounders in particular have been landed in large numbers, tho fish being in very good condition and well-sized. There "is always a keen public t demand for this variety. The price of flounder, in common with all types of fish, is comparatively low at present, averaging about Is per lb. retail. Schnapper, which are slightly cheaper than flounder, are also being otbainod in good numbers, flomo fine fish being included in recent hauls. Although not bo much in demand at present as in tho past, this fish is always keenly sought by the public all the year round. The present demand is not restricted to fresh fish, stocks of smoked fish of all varieties always being sure of sale, while prices are on a low level. Supplies of crayfish, which are inclined to be somewhat erratic, are met by a big demand, but dealers will not carry large stocks, as they require to be cleared shortly after arrival. •
