TRAVELLER ARRESTED.
DETECTIVES ON WHARF. MOTOR ENGINEER CHARGED. Detectives arrested William Madison Alt, motor engineer, on three charges of false pretences, as he left the Aorangi, which berthed from Vancouver at ten o'clock last evening, Hie amount involved is said to be approximately £I2OO. After hearing evidence on January 12, Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., granted an application for a warrant to give legal authority to have accused brought back to New Zealand. Alt was formerly of Drnry and Papakura, but at the time the magistrate granted the application he was thought to bo in Honolulu. Evidence was then given that Alt had sailed by the Aorangi on December 20. The case concerns alleged bogus motor sales on accused's part.
