FUTURE OF CANBERRA.
ADHERENCE TO THE PLAN. VIEWS OF MR. BRUCE. The Prime Minister of Australia, Mr. Bruce, speaking recently in regard to the development of Canberra, insisted that it should be held rigidly to the original plan. Being committed to the establishment of the Federal capital at Canberra, the people of Australia should make the city worthy of their great nation, and should countenance not the slightest departure from the decision and planning which emanated from a competition of worldwide scope. Mr., Bruce said that his visit to Washington had now convinced him that what nad marred the development of that city might occur at Canberra.
"Do not believe all the stories you hear of Canberra," went on Mr. Bruce. "It is a most attractive place, and I can only suggest that you go there and see the city for yourselves. At my door i 3 laid the blame for most things which happen in Australia, but Canberra was decided upon 25 years ago. Although much inconvenience may be caused to some of us at the present time, we must adhere to the original plan in every detail, in order that the capital will develop along ithe noble lines on which it was planned."
