SHAKESPEARE THEATRE

NEW BUILDING DESIGNED. WOMAN ARCHITECT'S SUCCESS. (Received January 6, 7.5 p.m.) A. and N.Z.-Sun. LONDON, Jan.. 5. Miss Elizabeth Scott, who is only 29 yoars of age, has been chosen as the architect for the new- Shakespeare Memorial Theatre at Stratford-upon-Avon, which is to replace the theatre which was burned in 1926. There were 72 competitive designs entered. Miss Scott's design is described as bold and splendid, and as taking full advantage of the beautiful site on the banks of the River Avon. She says her design in the basis of building. Her idea is that anyone seeing it from the outside should know that it is the theatre in which Shakespeare is played. More th?m £230,000, much of which has come from America, has been subscribed for the theatre, which will be one of the finest in England. A British Official Wireless message says Miss Scott is the daughter of a Bournemouth doctor.
