ANOTHER CONVICT FREE.
RELEASED AFTER 15 YEARS. A crime known as the " cart-shed" murder was recalled, when it was known that John Smith, aged about 40, who, on December 5, 1912, was 6entencod to death at Manchester for the alleged murder of Amelia Wood, a young servant, at Burnley, on June 23, of the same year, and who Was reprieved, was released from prison and returned to his homo at Clitheroe, near Burnley, after serving 15 years. The woman was found strangled in a cart shed, and a fortnight later Smith surrendered at Blackpool. His defence was that there was no premeditation. Smith returned to his father's house, whero he is to remain for some time. It is understood that ho intends, subsequently, to emigrate to Canada^
