A DEMENTED MAN.

SHOOTING A BULLOCK.

STRANGE CONDUCT ON STATION. A message from Bright, in the northeast mountain district, Victoria, states that a man, who is apparently demented, was discovered by Messrs. Treasure Bros, upon a visit to their station on the Dargo Plains. The man, who had no idea whence he came, arrived at Messrs. Treasures' house, and made himself comfortable. He discovered a gun which Mr. Treasure keeps at the house, and, loading it, he went out, and shot a saleable bullock, from which he cut sufficient meat to carry him on. This he cooked and ate. He then converted a side saddle to suit his requirements, and secured one of the station horses, which are usually very wild, and upon the horse he commenced a wild gallop about the plains, clad in a new suit, which one of the owners of the .station had left there. An inspection of the house showed that the man had no criminal intentions, and he was eventually captured by Mr. Treasure, junior. He could not explain how he had reached the place, beyond describing a river that he traversed. He refused further assistance, and, becoming afraid of the mountain cattle which usually follow people in search of salt, made off toward the Mount St. Bernard Hospice. No sign of him has since been seen.
