ESCAPADE OF YOUTH.
ARREST IN EMPTY HOUSE. FURTHER REMAND ON BAIL. The youth, Leslie Clifford Cufflin, aged 18, who was arrested in a vacant house in Wainai Avenue, Point Chevalier, on Wednesday evening with a black mask, electric torch, sand shoes and doorkey in his possession, appeared in the Police Court yesterday, on remand. He was charged with breaking and entering the house of William Jeffrey, with intent to commit a crime. On accused's behalf, Mr. Singer applied for bail. " We have made inquiries about accused and will not oppose an application for bail," Baid Chief-Detective Hammond. The Magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt (to Mr. Singer): What was the youth's io'.sa in going about the city with a mask and the tilings he had in his possession ! Mr. Singer: Ido not know, sir. I think it might have been the pictures. Perhaps films bad something to do with The Magistrate: He is too old for that. He should not be affected by pictures. You cannot blame them. Mr. Singer: Oh, I might as well blame the pictures as anything else. Accused was remanded on bail to appear on Thursday.
