At a meeting of the Bos.rd of Control for International Cricket attention was given to correspondence from the Marylebono Cricket Club and the New Zealand Cricket Council regarding the proposal that the English team should play two r:atches in New Zealand at the end of the 1828-29 tour.
Tho board decided that it could not consider any suggestions that would involve tho curtailment of tho Australia 1 ! programme. No provision is made for a visit to New Zealand in the itinerary, which shows that the team will commence its tour with a match against West Australian colts at Perth on October 13. It will visit all the States and will conclude the tour at Perth on March 28. Tho board adhered to its decision to play a. test match at Brisbane, and to take one away from Sydney, in spite of strong protests by New South Wales. In the test matches six-ball overs will be reverted to, but in the other matches the overs will consist of eight balls. The board decided that the tour of the Australian team in New Zealand should . begin immediately after the match between Victoria and Queensland, which is timed to end not later than February 8, y. Richardson was selected as captain of the team to tour New Zealand. The dates of the principal events of tho English cricket team's tour in Australia are:— October 17 to 20, v. DOMINION'S . POSITION. COMMENT BY MR. REESK. REASONS FOR DECISION* [BY TELEGEAPH. —i'BESS ASSOCIATION. Q CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. Commenting on the decision of the Australian Board of Cricket Control not to include any matches in New Zealand in the itinerary of the English team which is to visit Australia in the 1928-29 season, Mr. D. Reese, chairman of the Management Committee of the New Zealand Cricket Councilj in an interview to-day, said:—"One can quite appreciate the dej cision of the Board of Control for, with the development of Queensland into a first-class State and the steady progress of the game in Western Australia, the board has a more extended programme for English teams than hitherto and quits naturally the welfare of its own States must come first. As this is likely to be the case in all future tours, it looks as if New Zealand's chance of having English teams visiting this country can only be brought about by the council inviting the Marylebone Club to send a team direct for a New Zealand tour. "Tho Australian authorities," added Mr. Reese, "have always taken such a generous attitude toward New Zealand cricket that it may be assumed they would have complied with the council's request had it been at all possible."
