BODY FOUND IN HARBOUR.

CRIES HEARD IN NIGHT. FATE OF UNKNOWN MAN. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] WELLINGTON. Friday. Residents at the beach end of Patrick Street, Petone, heard cries coming from the beach at about 3.15 this morning so the police were informed. Constable MacNamara searched the vicinity but could find nothing although he stated that he hard groans. At daylight Constables Scarry and MacNamara went out in a dinghy and after cruising round for some time found the body of a man fully dressed floating in the water. No papers wero found to assist in identification. The contents of the pockets of the man's clothes included a pair of spectacles in a case, a metalcased watch attached to a chain, having a silver medal and a mouth organ. The body was clothed in a light grey suit. Deceased was about 21 years of age and about sft. Sin. in height. Kow the man came to bo in the water is not known and there were no marks of violence on the body.
