Santa Claus has whipped up his reindeer team and will be seen no more for a long year. <Jn this last day of the old year, we think of all the pleasures it has held, all the love and kindliness that life hau brought, the sunshine that has alway. come to cheer us after the shadows have P« B9ed ' Just ahead, over the rim of to morrow, heV New Year. When the clocks strike twelve to-night, the Old Year will die, and the lit New Year will be born. To the souna of trumpets and whistles, horns and sirens,' we shall welcome the entry of New Year, coming to us in the solemn hour of midnight, robed m starlight, bringing frerh gifts of joy and gcod fortune, new tests for our strength and courage. Some of you will be wideawake, waiting for the whistles and sirens to sound their welcome to 1928; others will be wrapped in slumber, drfiting down the pleasant river of sleep into the glad New Year. And some of y.vu older boyo and girls will doubtless be making good resolutions, thinking how much better you are going to get on with the job of life next year than in the year t.:at is pas*. And that is a good thing to do, too, provided you ton t forget your resolution# before the little New Year is seven days old! Ahead of you all lien the glory and delight of weeks of summer holiday, the happiness of home, and the freedom of youth. The beaches are calling you, the waves and the warm sand await your eager feet; the birds are calling from the forest trees, and over all your happy world are blue skies and sunshine. On this last day of the Old Year, I am thinking of you all, wishing you ell happiness and joy in the long summer days that lie ahead. I ana hoping that the New Year will bring opportunity and good fortune to the older boys and girls* who have just left school, who ar# setting out so eagerly and bravely on the path of life, lam hoping *" ac no shadow of trouble may darken the happiness of this glad New Year, and that every boy and girl who reads the little verse at the top of this letter will cut it out tfhd keep it, as the very best of all New Year resolutions!
