PROGRESS OF WHANGAREI.

In comparison with recent years there has been little Luilding activity in the Whangarei Borough during tho year just closing. The estimated value of dwellings erected was £41,542, while other buildings, of which the new Roman Catholic Church and the business premises erected by the Presbyterian Church trustees, are the chief, totalled in value £27,571. There has been a slight; increase in births, deaths and marriages registered in Whangarei during 1927, compared with the previous year, the figures being as follows, those for 1926 baing given in parentheses:—Births, 362 (349); deaths, 125 (119); marriages, 103 (93). Weddings solemnised by the registrar totalled 20, as against 25 for 1926.
