WIFE ASSAULTED.
THE HUSBAND CHARGED.
REMAND FOR OBSERVATION. Charged with assaulting his wife, Honor McKenzie, 50 as to cause her actual bodily harm, Lawrence McKenzie, aged 41, a labourer, living in Parnell Road, appeared in the Police Court yesterday. Sub-Inspector McCarthy said McKenzie struck his wife on the forehead with some instrument when she was in bed. "He says he does not remember much about it," the sub-inspector added. "It is a mystery why he did it. He is very fond or his wife. I think there has been something strange between them—some worry about which we do not know as yet." _ Obviously, he added, accused was suffering from some severe mental strain or worry. It appeared to have affected him so that ho did not seem quite normal. For this reason Mr. McCarthy suggested that McKenzie should be remanded for a few days in order that he might be kept under observation. . The magistrate, Mr. W. R. McKean, adopted the suggestion and remanded accused to appear on Monday. In the meantime accused is to be kept under medical observation.
