SURGICAL FEAT.
RECOVERY OF EYESIGHT. SYDNEY SPECIALIST'S SKILL. [FROM OUlt OWN CORRESPONDENT.] SYDNEY. Dec. 22. A remarkable feat has just been accomplished here, a woman's sight having been restored after she had been blind for 15 years, through a brilliant operation by a specialist in Macquarie Street —the Harley Street of Sydney. The woman is 58 years of age and years .ago medical men gave up all hope of ever restoring her vision. A week ago. however, sho went into hospital, where an operation was performed, and threo days later she was able to return to her home with sight restored in one eye. It, must have been an astounding experience for the patient. The operation was performed with a local anaesthetic, the woman, of course, all through, it was her probably unique experience, after 15 years of darkness, as the operation proceeded, slowly to perceive the figures of the medical man and his assistants and the operaOng theatre and its surroundings swimming into her ken. She looked out of the window and beheld the blue sky. The specialist, hopes in time to perform a , similar' operation on the second eye and restore the sight likewise. <
