Unfortunately weather conditions were unfavourable, rain delaying the commencement of play B ntil after mid-day. Rain set in again #bout three o'clock, just after the conclusion of the first round matches. Only t w o heads were played in the second yoand when play was declared off for the flay. The green played exceptionally W ell under the conditions. Matches will jjQ resumed at 9 o'clock this morning, following are the results of yesterday's play*- FIB ST ROUND. Brittain, G. Gladding, W. Coltman, Jlamb (Carlton), 20, v. Kennedy, Green, jfclacklow, Wright (Onehunga), 19. Munro, Bilkey, Keith, Armstrong pen, G. Hosking (Carlton), 14. Sidler, Buckle, Pearco, Randell (Rocky Jfook), 20, v. Harrison, Wheelan, Greening, Taylor (Epsom), 18. Anderson, Wise, Maher, J. Hosking '{West End), IS, v. Clark, Roberts, JJawken, Ramsayl (Dominion Road), 18. Bates, Deare, Ivilgour,. 11. Clarke (Carlson), a bye. The match between Wright (Onehunga) arid Lamb (Carlton) provided a close and Reciting contest, the latter eventually winning 20 —19 on the last head. Lamb quickly took the lead, and at the eighth head the scores were 12—6 in his favour. On the ninth head, Wright scored three, jnd from this stage the scores remained even. Lamb led by one at the 17th head, 'but at the 20th the score was 19 &U. Lamb had to make the shot with his last bowl on the last head to win the game. This he accomplished with a fine draw amid loud applause. Another even game resulted in the meeting of Randell (Rocky Nook) and Taylor (Epsom). The scores were even up to the eighth head. Randell drew the shot on the next head, and lay two up. On the 10th head, however, "Taylor got a nice fiv 6, placing him three in the lead. Randell got two on thu 15th head, making the scores equal at 14 all. On the 20th head Taylor lay shot, and Pearce drew a second. Randell drew with his first bowl and took the second shot out, leaving him three down. Taylor attempted to block, but was a toot out o.E line, and Randell drove and burned the head. I nthe replav, Randell. got four, thus winning the match. Armstrong (Pukekohe) had a load of five over G. Hosking (Carlton) at the 15th h;ad. Hosking took out with a beautiful straight drive on the 17th head when his opponents were one up, and lay three up himself. Armstrong was four points ahead with two heads to go. Hosking scored one and then Armstrong put the issue beyond doubt in the last head by laying three up. This game was marked by fine drawing shots on the part of all the players. The match between J. Hoskjng (West End) and Ramsay (Dominion Road) was evenly contested ■ throughout. Ramsay led in the early stages and was five up at the 10th head. Hosking got three on the 13th head and - he scores then stood 12—10 in Ramsay's favour. The result was always in doubt from this stage. Hoskmg was one up on the 18th head, and then Ramsay scored one on the next head with a beautiful draw when he was three down. Hosking got two on the 20th head. The final head saw Ramsay get the shot:, after making a good effort for two to tie.

WIN FOR CHAPMAN'S TEAM. THAMES PLAYERS DEFEATED. {BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON, Thursday. The most successful tournament held by the South Auckland Bowling Centre for many years concluded to-day in showery weather. This was the first occasion the tournament, was played during Christmas week and the success achieved proved the wisdom of making the innovation. Keen interest was .displayed in the games by the players and an exceptionally large attendance of spectators throughout the tourney, and some brilliant bowling was .witnessed. When play concluded yesterday Chapman, Loveridge and Coombe had tied for first place in section A, with six wins and three losses each. Adamson (Ihanies) headed the B section list with nine wins and no losses and Pilkington (Hamilton) was runner-up with eight wins and one loss. Lymburn (Hamilton East) won section C with eight wins and one loss, [Wvcherle.y (Whitiora) being runner-up .with six wins and three losses. In the draw for the play-off to decide the winner of section A Chapman drew & bye and Coombes and Loveridge played seven heads. Coombes won, 7—3, after an exciting contest. In the play-off between Coombes and Chaprrfen the latter won by 8 to 4, after a game in which half the heads were burned. The winners of sections B and C, L. [Alexander. R. Peebles, W. S. Clark and F. Adamson (Thames) and Walhs, Neal, Pairnell and Lymburn (Hamilton East), then played 21 heads, the match resulting in a win for Adamson by 19 to 15. Adamson thus secured ten wins and no IOSSGS The keenest interest was taken in the final between Adamson and J. Hynes, IW. Spiers, W. M. Horton and W. Chapman (Hamilton East). Chapman w ° n the championship on the 20th head by 19 points to 11. . . The contre banner and shield and the Fraser Smith Cup for the best Hamilton team were presented to Chapman s rink by the president of the centre, Mr. S. James, who heartily congratulated the [Winners on their performance. The green caretaker, Mr. L. G. Harvey, was presented with a cheque. Votes of thanks were accorded the green superintendent, Mr. M. Dorke, and the secretary, Mr. W. M. Horton.
