FIRE DESTROYS LAUNCH.

OWNERS ESCAPE IN DINGHY. ONE MAN SUSTAINS BURNS. Fire completely destroyed a new 32ft. launch shortly after noon on Tuesday while it was cruising on the Manukau Harbour, off Cornwallis. The fire apparently originated in the engine room. The owners, Messrs. H. Evans and R. Whitcombe, of Onehunga, after vainly endeavouring to suppress the outbreak, were compelled to leave in the dinghy. Mr. Whitcombe, in a - last-minute effort to retrieve some personal belongings, received painful burns to a hand and arm. The launch was not insured.
