HONOUR FROM FRANCE.

The French Consul at Auckland, M. Paul Serre, has announced that the French decoration of Officier d'Ac.ademie has been awai'ded by M. Edouard Herriott, Minister of Public Instruction and Fine Arts, to Mr. F. W. Reed, of Whangarei, for his services to French literature. Mr. Reed is a recognised authority the world over on the works of the elder Alexandre Dumas, and he possesses one of the finest Dumas collections in the world. At present he is engaged on translating some works which have not yet appeared m English.
