MUSEUM SHOWCASES.
THE ENGLISH CONTRACT.
FINAL STAGE OF PROTEST.
The controversy over the order for the Auckland Museum showcases may now be considered closed. The council of the Auckland Institute and Museum, at its meeting yesterday, received a final letter from tha Auckland Manufacturers' Association, which had objected to the placing of the order in England. The association stated that in view of the fact that the contract had been finalised and would not be reconsidered, no good purpose would be served by a further pursuit of the matter. Ihe letter added the members of the council did not appear to be seized of the great advances m New Zealand manufacturing industry that had been made in recent years, and of the high quality of the articles now being made in the Dominion The association asked for the closiy cooperation of the museum in giving, as far as possible, greater preference to New Zealand manufactures. It promised every assistance in supplying information or arranging for tests of articles whose quality might be in doubt. " I am afraid the association did not make itself fully acquainted with the facts of the matter," said the chairman, Mr. J. H- Upton, in moving that the letter 6hould be received. Mr. A. G. Lunn remarked the association had been specially invited to visit the museum and obtain full information, but it had not done so. Considering this, the letter seemed to be unwarranted.
"They may have acquainted themselves with the facts, but they have disregarded them," said Mr. J. Kenderdine, The motion was carried.
