MARINE SUPERINTENDENT. CAPTAIN S. G. STRINGER RETIRES [BY tei,egrah>h.-—own correspondent.] WELLINGTON, Friday. Captain S„ G. Stringer, who has retired after nearly 21 years' service with the Marine Department, during seven of which he was superintendent of mercantile marine at Wellington, was to-day farewelled by the officers of the department..

In presenting Captain Stringer with a travelling case, a rug and a wallet of banknotes, cn behalf of the staff, the secretary of the Marine Department, Mr. G. C. Godfrey, expressed regret that Cap- 1 tain Stringer, having arrived at the retiring age, was compelled «o sever his connection with the department.. He mentioned that Captain Stringer, after , a long period of honourable service with the Union Company, resigned to take up the position of assstant-supcriiitendent of marine at Wellington on February 1, 1907.
