FRENCH MERCHANT VESSELS. HEAVY LOSSES ON SALE. (.Received December 1, 5.46 p.m.) A. ' N.Z.-Sun. PARIS, Dec. 1. The Senate and the Chamber oi Deputies have formally ratified the sale of the 400 merchant ships which the Government bought in war time, at a cost of 1,450,000,000 francs. The franc was then nearly at par. The realisation now that it has fallen has resulted in a net loss of more than 1,000,000,000 francs.
