PREVENTION OF CRUELTY.

THE AUCKLAND SOCIETY. REVIEW OF YEAR'S WORK. " It is not the object of the society to secure a 'ong list of convictions; rather is it desired that the occasion for such shou<d be r ew. ' stated the report of the Auckland Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, presented to the annual meeting last evening by the president, Mr C. H. Furness. Lhe report statecf the thanks of the committee were due to those who had reported cases of deliberate cruelty, and attended the Court to give evidence. In cases where warnings appeared likely to have the desired result, no further action other than to see that the warnings were obeyed was found necessary The president expressed appreciation of the services of the secretary, Mr. J. J. Mead, the inspector, Mr. H. Ferguson, and tht honorary officers and helpers who hao assisted the society in doing a large amount of valuable work during the year. The balance-sheet showed the revenue to he £9lO and the expenditure £546, leaving h :redit balance of £364 The following officers were elected:— President. Mr L. H Furness; vice-presi dents.
