SALESWOMAN CONVICTED. INTENTION TO LEAVE COUNTRY. Appearing for sentence on charges of stealing a snuff box and £l7 I.os from a city office, Enid Rachael Halin, aged 23, saleswoman, said in the Polica Court yesterday that circumstances in which she had found herself after futile attempts to obtain work had forced her to commit the offences. Detectives had made inquiries in Sydney regarding her character, she having come from tnei'e six weeks ago. ChiefDetective Cunimings said the Sydney police reported that nothing was known against accused, and that her relatives were highly respected. < The magistrate, Mr. W. R. McKean, convicted and ordered accused to come up for sentence if called upon within 12 months. "1 want to go back to Sydney if it is possible," said accused. The Magistrate: It would be a good thing, I think, if you went back. Chief-Detective Cummings: We will be only too pleased to get her there. Said to be now undergoing a sentence for breaking and entering and theft, Aubrey Lester Andrew, aged 27, salesman, appeared to plead guilty to a charge of obtaining £l2 from Frank Wong by means of a valueless cheque. Accused was ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within 18 months. On a charge of attempted carnal knowledge of a child, John Edwin Robinson, aged 53, was remanded until next Thursday.
