TRADE WITH RUSSIA.
OVERTURE BY MR. BALDWIN. NO RESPONSE FROM SOVIET. (Received November 30, 5.35 p.m.) A. and N.Z.-Sun. LONDON, Nov. 29. In the House of Commons the Prime Minister, Mr. Baldwin, in reply to a question referring to his own speech on the subject of the renewal of relations with Russia, said it had not elicited any response from Russia. He did not propose to take any other steps in the matter. Colonel J. C. Wedgwood, Labour member for Newcastle-under-Lyme: In view of the interests of trade could not steps be taken to bring about a desirable arrangement ? Mr. Baldwin: £ adumbrated the conditions under which Britain is prepared to consider a resumption of relations. When these have been acceded to it will be possible to progress, but not otherwise. Colonel Wedgwood: Would it not be possible to open negotiations, in view of the state of our trade ? Mr. Baldwin: We have not had any assurance from the Russian Government that it has ceased to interfere in our internal affairs.
